News June 2002

21st June 2002

The engine is back in the car and should be up and running tomorrow, a few modifications have been carried out to ensure maximum power from the new cam.  The passenger front wheel arch has been repaired and looks like new, the windscreen surround has also been repaired and is ready to paint before the new windscreen is fitted.  I have placed an order with www.rallynuts.com for some Ferodo DS3000 brake pads and some new Dunlop Tyres that are a lot better than the Colway's.

Well the new cam has been fitted to the engine and the oil leak has been stopped, now all we have to do is put it back in the car.  The windscreen has also been removed and binned as it had cracked on our last event.  She looks a bit strange with no windscreen but it wont be for very long.

The car is booked to be at the Uxbridge auto show on the 21st July 2002 at the MCAC stand.  If your there come over and say hello.

We have also had confirmation of our entry to the Fat Albert Stages, have a look at the events website www.fatalbertstages.co.uk for details.

We have paid up for our entry into the Fat Albert Stages on the 27th July, I cant wait!!  We also have purchased a new cam shaft that should give us a little bit more power and we are looking into buying some quality tyres.

When I dismantled the car to get the engine out I noticed the brake pads only had about 1mm of pad left, we were lucky that we didn't have to run the last 2 stages at Longcross! That's a set of pads worn out in less than 200 miles!!

3rd June 2002

We took the engine out of the car today so an oil leak from the timing chain cover can be fixed, it didn't take very long as we are now well practiced in the removal of engines from Mk1 Fiestas.  The co-driver is now complaining about dirty hands! I don't know you pay peanuts and what do you get?

We are still in discussions about the wheel arches and paint job for the new shell I bought home on Saturday.  The base colour is white so if you have any further suggestions for a colour scheme just let me know.

1st June 2002

Well, I had a 9 hour round trip to a village called Fakenham in Norfolk today to look at a restored mk1 Fiesta shell.  It was well restored to supersport spec so I had to just bring it home.  We had a small accident with one of the tie down straps coming off the car and allowing it to come forward on the trailer.  Luckily I was only doing 10mph and not a lot of damage has been done. Thank God!

Now all we have to do is prep the shell for Motorsport use and transfer everything over.  Keep checking back for information on its progress.
